In mem’ry of who?

He drew the strip for over six decades, died earlier this month in Georgia (Roswell, I think), in his early nineties.

He was 91 years old.”Rest in peace Jack.

Ed Dodd was actually the creator of Mark Trail, but Jack Elrod worked on it with him almost from the beginning, and took over the strip when Dodd retired.

I had a weather radio years ago, but never attributed it to Mark Trail…

The “Liberty Meadows” rerun strip today also has a Mark Trail reference—probably not a coincidence.

As a child, I remember having Shredded Wheat Biscuits for breakfast, a lot. There were cards in the box, dividing the biscuits so they wouldn’t get broken, and they had tips and ideas from MARK TRAIL. I looked forward to them and they were so informative. Great breakfast and a great breakfast reading. At that time, there were NOT fortybajillion types of cold cereal on the store shelves, there were only Grape Nuts, Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Puffed Wheat, Shredded Wheat, and then there were Wheaties which Mother never bought. O and NONE of them had sugar on them! Leaving the sugar quantity up to you. That pre-sweetened stuff is overload! I guess that’s the reason I prefer to eat my cereal without sugar : D

RIP Jack Elrod. I still to this day read Mark Trail and enjoy it (and I’m age 61). :-)

I’ve read Mark Trail since I was a little kid, and I’m retired now. Very nice tribute!
