From what I’ve read, Scalia wasn’t exactly what most people would call a nice man.

This justice would not have allowed women, blacks, or renters the vote. He felt the Constitution was to be taken as originally written. He said it was not a “living” document. IMHO, he deserves respect, but not accolades.

@mfhorn – The problem with Liberals is they have had plenty of success short circuiting our Democracy by getting the Supreme Court to carry their water.

Conservatives as well but not to the same extent.

Justice Scalia tried to keep the Supreme Court from being a tyrrant in it’s own right.

“There are those who contend that it does not benefit African Americans to get them into the University of Texas where they do not do well, as opposed to having them go to a less-advanced school, a slower-track school where they do well,” Scalia said

The comments were called “racist,” “disgusting” and “insulting.”

Scalia seemed proud of his conservative image of, to paraphrase, standing athwart History and yelling, Stop! And like Gulliver, he often had an offensive way of stopping what he considered liberal fires. He would have made a good conservative insult comic. In short, I didn’t like him or his rulings.

Given Scalia’s hateful rhetoric, divisive rulings and massive conflicts of interest, the background of Benson’s cartoon should have been colored red.

The “originalist” who didn’t seem to think amendments meant much if they granted rights to the “wrong interests”.

@nance19oped – Though I could hardly be considered a pro-lifer the Roe-V-Wade decision created a right to privacy in the constitution that was never there.

    That Ax swings both ways.

The Supreme Court can create a lot of good in society by striking down Jim Crow laws and providing homosexuals with equal marriage. But it isn’t the only way to get those rights for those who have been marginalized and I think many would agree that it isn’t the correct way to get those rights spelled out.

The correct approach is to convince your fellow citizens to pass laws that will spell out those rights and liberties or to amend the constitution.

But back to my complaint about Liberals being impatient. They really are. So while you may rejoice that Homosexuals now have equal marriage rights with Heterosexuals it won’t get you very far because a lot of groups are now questioning the legitimacy of the Supreme Court to force them acknowledge it.

Then you turn around and whine and snivel about Citizen’s united because it didn’t go your way. In truth it was the right decision given the unfettered money flowing into politics from Unions and other NGOs.

You can’t have it both ways. You can either agree with me that the Supreme Court needs more limitation in what it can decide so that the Consitution doesn’t continue to evolve at the whim of political movements. Or you can tolerate votes that go against you and Scream when you don’t get YOUR justice on the Supreme Court.

Justice Scalia is the finest of the USSC Nine of the 20th and 21st century!-critics are condemning a Christian hero and a Founder’s Constitution admirer’s hero.-His faithfulness to the Founders words and intent will be rewarded by his Savior in Heaven, IMO.-Haters who choose to oppose Biblical correctness will also be “rewarded” by Jesus Christ the Judge of all mankind, for choosing to be with those in the Bible’s book of Romans in chapter 1. All who oppose God’s righteousness standard and obey Satan the Pied Piper, will continue alive in the Lake of Fire after the Judgment, no exit, no escape, with Satan and his evil angels, forever.-I pray these sinners will change their minds and trust in God’s only Savior, Jesus, the eternal Son of God, who has created the New Jerusalem to light the New Earth throughout eternity (described in Revelation chapters 20 through 22)

Proverbs 31:8-9 ESVOpen your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.

In practice Scalia and republicans do the exact opposite.

May he RIP. But that was all he stood for, the Constitution and the Federalist Papers, ignoring the People of today, by following the Conservative line, “Forget the people, they’re too busy eating cake, they don’t deserve any break, make them work harder and longer, with less pay then they need to earn.”

@nance19oped – We had Unions with exhalted status for a long time. The Supreme Court just gave corporations parity. My last paragraph does apply because the argument isn’t based on what YOUR opinion of Roe v Wade or Citizen’s United. It’s based on how it is currently applied.

I did not care for the man’s views and this wouldn’t mean much except he was in a position to command everyone to see it his way.Aside from that, I deeply wish the politicians would observe some decorum at least until he’s properly buried. This squabbling over succession is unseemly at best and and at worst, beastly.

He sis qite a bit of shady things that discredit him. for example, his free stay at the expensive lodge was paid for by Poindexter who, I understand, has a case pending before the Court.
