Love anything… …and your heart will certainly be wrung. STOMP STOMP STOMP And possibly be broken. SNIFF If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries. Avoid all entanglements. Lock it up in the casket of coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket - safe, dark, motionless, airless - it will change. It will not be broken. It will become unbreakable, impenetrable… …irredeemable… KLINK! CLICK! To love at all is to be vulnerable. - C.S. Lewis

Somehow reminds me of the Chicago song “Love Will Come Back”: and the Peter Townsend song “Let My Love Open the Door.”

The zen thing to do is to replace biological love with rational compassion. Giving in to biological love is to be slave to your hormones.

But why is it always about romantic love? I love deeply…my daughter, my friends, family and even my dogs. I feel quite fulfilled and happy for now without a mate.

Brilliant. These seem to come to me just when I need to see them. Thank you.

“Protecting” your heart by locking it away and trying to keep it hid is a quick and easy way to make it useless. However, it is impossible to know real joy without having known that pain. Having known only the pain and not trying to heal it will make it bitter and brittle, no good to anyone. Only by exercising it often and giving it experience will it be strong. Yes, you will remember a broken heart and its hurt, sometimes for a lifetime. But that goes away eventually.

When I Was One-and-TwentyBy A. E. Housman
When I was one-and-twenty I heard a wise man say,“Give crowns and pounds and guineas But not your heart away;Give pearls away and rubies But keep your fancy free.”But I was one-and-twenty, No use to talk to me.
When I was one-and-twenty I heard him say again,“The heart out of the bosom Was never given in vain;’Tis paid with sighs a plenty And sold for endless rue.”And I am two-and-twenty, And oh, ’tis true, ’tis true.

Every time I see this, I think of my husband. I’ve had some bad relationships, and I don’t look good in black & blue. Chris is the one man that makes me feel safe and loved completely. We recently had our 14th anniversary after knowing each other 17 years and living together 16 years. I became disabled 16 years ago, and physically I’ve never been worse.
I’ve never been happier.
