Lots of unwanted nostalgia… well, OK, maybe some of it is wanted…
But Claude and Clara pile it on
in the Aug 10th 2020 “CLEO and COMPANY” on Sherpa…
though I have to say they seem to be mixing up times and genres.
I remember those lines… except for “Read the ads. Learn the facts.”
And we never said "pizza pie " in my neck of the woods.
Some of the jingles and commercials in my head are long-gone, or local to my Madison, or later, Berkeley school days …
probably few people drive around hearing “14-80-oh, WISM radio” in their heads…
“Don’t cook tonight… call Chicken Delight.”
The Rennebohm’s drug store jingle … a few years later, in Berkeley… “Hinks is your store.”
Some of Claude and Clara’s “hip” slang, though, is from 10 or 15 years later…
Occasionally I still have to stop myself from using a word or phrase that would make me sound like a silly relic.
(Though I’ve never seriously called anything “groovy” in my life.)
Then again… if you’re a silly relic, you might as well own it, right?
It’s all cool.
Far out.
“Chick” is almost new again… especially with some Gen Z-ers ….
Some people think they’re hip using words their kids thought were cool… I mean kewl…
only now it’s just as out of date as hippie slang, and they don’t know it.
I cringingly recall that my husband and I referred to each other, for a short while before we broke up and became friends instead, as “my ol’ man” and “my ol’ lady.”
That startled my father… cos in his day those expressions described your parents.
Today, calling your wife “my ol’ lady” means you’re probably a has-been biker.
Claude and Clara wish they were back in the 70’s. Clara could carry Claude upstairs for some afternoon delight. I just noticed that they have new comics on the main page and have brought back one that has been gone for a while. They can do that, but will do nothing about Sherpa. Why?

Well Claude and Clara, you can often tell a person’s age by the ads that they remember. Here’s an earworm for you:

I suspect sabotage from a neighbor who did not like J. Stussis’ sign sticking in the sidewalk.

Meanwhile, back in Cleveland, the (human) Cliffords are enjoying a bit of nostalgia. Totally forgot about dinner.

Claude and Clara are so pleased with themselves that they completely forgot about poor starving Cleo.
That pizza sounded pretty good. I read a recipe the other day for a stuffed pizza. Sounded like a Stromboli. Yummy.
