Ultimately, it’s the Republiklan base who have created Dump. He received billions of dollars of free air time because people tuned and watched him. That helped networks build an audience for advertising dollars. The “establishment” has been dog whistling his themes – racism, xenophobia, faux-fascism, etc. – for decades (since Goldwater) to lay the emotional foundation. And now, people feel free to say the most outrageous, horrible things and are willing to blow up the country just because. Carmen, we have met the enemy and it’s us.

As long as the Republicans try to blame someone else (Obama, the media) for Trump instead of their own decades of racism, misogyny, and fearmongering they will remained baffled why the country keeps electing Democrats to the White House. Thanks to Trump the Democrats now not only have a shot at taking back the Senate but suddenly the House is in play as well. This is why the Republican establishment is in a panic.Nice of them to start recording all those anti-Trump ads for use in the fall.
