Ahh, New York, where oil is pronounced “earl” and Earl is pronounced “Oil.”

He feels clever. The kid just feels confused.

I often get mistaken for a New Yorker because I can’t pronounce “R’s.”

I remember reading a comic book featuring Spooky, Casper’s cousin with the Bronx accent. Took awhile to figure out his girlfriend’s name was actually Pearl because he say “Poil.”

I’m from Bronx, New York and I never spoke those mispronunciations. When I went to school, we had it drummed into us to speak properly and I have ever since. As a result, I have no accent whatsoever and no one can tell where I am from originally. They have to ask where and then they say I lost the accent. I had to tell them I never had one.

Kind of like Pahk the cah in Hahvahd Yahd? …
