Frazz by Jef Mallett for May 15, 2016
Transcript:
Frazz: It's actually named for Maia, the greek counter-part of the Roman goddess of fertility, Bona Dea. Though the poet ovid suggests it comes from "maiores", latin for "elders," paired with June, after the latin "luniores", ie,, juniors. So you can take your pick where May gets its name. Girl: I'm sticking with "May be nice, May be yucky." Frazz: That works, too.

Usually it is warmer before a rain, and turns cooler right after.

To Night-Gaunt49’s comment, April was the original start of the year, as is still true in many mid-eastern cultures. When they changed it to January, some people didn’t like it and still celebrated in April. They were considered fools. Thus, April Fools was born.

@thebird55Depends on where you live, I think. The wind before the rain(storm) is spot on for here. (if we are fortunate enough to get the rain)

Bold cold fronts and warm fronts can bring rain….Cold fronts can make thunderstorms and tornadoes, warm fronts generally bring gentle rains…..If it’s a warm front, it will feel warmer after it passes, not necessarily by much…..

‘June’ is named for ‘Juno’, the Roman equivalent of ‘Hera’, the queen of the gods.
