I have a knack to conducting “Run Free” and “Homeland” both by Hans Zimmer both from the soundtrack of Dreamworks film “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.” Luckily there’s no one to accidentally smacking someone from behind in the face.

I bet this never happened to Leonard Bernstein.

My band teacher told us a story about during his final in college, he had to conduct a band of people who were going to be professional musicians, and he knew them well. So he is conducting them, he has to cue in the flutes and accidentally knocked the baton out of his hand, almost hitting someone.

Strother Martin hosted Saturday Night Live in 1980, and was in a sketch called the “Conductor’s Club;” it was funny. (I especially liked Garrett Morris’ “Miles Davis takes the baton” technique…)

Am I the only one who decided to check out the actual piece?

I love the fact that, besides being Beethoven’s #1 fan, Schroeder was eclectic in his tastes, enjoying Brahms and Chopin, as well as other composers.

That is my absolute favorite ‘classical’ piece. I still have my LP – Van Cliburn with Leinsdorf and the BSO: sublime.
