One of the most famous Background Characters of all time thus debuts. So iconic that South Park even made an exact duplicate of him for the same purpose :).
Nope. Linus and Lucy’s younger brother’s real name was never known. Linus christened him “Rerun” and it was always in quotation marks. I’m sure Mr. and Mrs. Van Pelt never really named the poor kid Rerun. And you never knew is Schroeder was his first or last name.
I’m kinda of bummed that Pig-Pen was not happy with his name. Everyone called him by a name he didn’t like for the whole length of the strip. That’s a drag.

I’d shake your hand to meet your acquaintance, Pig-Pen, but I don’t have anything to wipe my own hand with.

Wasn’t he the keyboardist from The Grateful Dead?

Welcome Pig Pen! He was treated much better in later strips! I like when he gets cleaned up and he goes outside and the dust cloud is back!

The character Schulz would say became more popular than he would have liked.

Pig-Pen appears! And he didn’t have the clouds of dust yet, he was just muddy and dirty…

Wow! Almost 60 years I’ve been a fan, and I never knew “Pig-Pen” had had an origin strip!

Stephen Miller’s 3rd grade teacher compared him to Pig Pen! She also said that he let glue dry on his arm and eat it!

how cool…the origin story

My personal theory is that his real name is Pygmalion Penn.
wonka291 about 6 years ago
That’s really weird, isn’t it? Who doesn’t have a name??

Pig-Pen has always been my favourite and his first appearance is so sad. “I haven’t got a name.” Heartbreaking.
