Well, I’ve never seen this one before. Calvin does indeed makes some overwhelming mischief, but I never expected his parents to go as far as to question why they had him. No wonder he needs Hobbes for support. Na matter how angry my parents were at me, they never questioned my existence……… as far as I know.
the logic used in ‘comments’ to comic strips on gocomics is always interesting. they do make me wonder sometimes how/why we think, act, respond, like we do.also i find myself somewhat surprised by the variety of conclusions reached that had not crossed my mind when just reading the strip itself. the ‘comments’ are sometimes my best mental exercise of the day as i try to figure out the possible rabbit trails that generated the ‘responses’.
There are many strips throughout the run that depict Calvin’s Mom as being loving, nurturing and tolerant. She keeps Hobbes clean, for example, and she sewed Calvin his “Stupendous Man” costume. She tries to watch out for Calvin’s safety, too, and fixes him hot cocoa after he’s been out in the cold.
“I know I’m bragging but, This cartoon illustrates just ONE of the thousands of reasons I/we chose to live of wonderful lives without the encumbrance of children;)”
I appreciate your candor, and those of us who love having had great kids wish that everyone who feels as you and your wife feel would have been as wise as you in not having them anyway. The world would be a lot better off.
And not everyone needs to be there to keep the species going. You didn’t have two “replacements,” and we had four, so we took care of it. And you would love them. They turned out great!
I’m with Dad -women want babies, not children, because they’re “cute”. On the other hand, having a dog is antisocial, they should have got, oh, a tortoise.

With parents like these, no wonder he turns to a stuffed toy for solace and comfort.

I’ve always thought that Bob Denver’s Maynard G. Krebs character(the “G” stands for “Walter”) was funnier than his “Gilligan” character.
