Breaking Cat News by Georgia Dunn for May 17, 2016
Transcript:
Lupin: I've just been handed a bulletin-the doorbell rang! Puck: Someone at the door, DROP TO THE FLOOR. Woman: Hey! Book Store Woman: Hey! Your books came in! And I've got a Christmas cactus cutting for you! Book Store Woman: Oh, hello. Beatrix: Good afternoon! Who are you here to see? If it's Elvis, I'm afraid he's stuck in a very important meeting. Puck: The Woman put Elvis in the bedroom when the doorbell ran. Elvis: ...Dear Woman, how dare you lay this insult upon me- Puck: Sometimes he swipes at company. Book Store Woman: Is this the little lady you're fostering? Woman: Sure is! She's quite the climber. Beatrix: Ooh! Is that a plant? Book Store Woman: Wow! She is busy. Woman: She pretty much runs the place. Beatrix: Fluff the couch pillows... Beatrix: Adjust the window shade! Beatrix: Push the fern just a little to the LEFT- Woman: AGAIN? She will not stop moving this plant! Book Store Woman: She's doing you a favor! A maiden hair fern shouldn't be in direct sun! It needs shade. Beatrix: Oh my cat! Beatrix: I have been trying to tell her that ALL WEEK! Woman: Beatrix seems really fond of plants...Hey! Need a book store cat? Book Store Woman: Ha! Ah... No. I'm not much of a cat person. Book Store Woman: Well... That's not entirely true. There's an ancient little grey cat who wanders over to the shop sometimes from Quinn farms. I like her. Book Store Woman: And I think there was a cat sleeping in my green house a couple of winters ago- Woman: Every book store should have a cat. Book Store Woman: Eh. I don't think Trevor would agree to a cat. Woman: You never know. He could surprise you! Book Store Woman: Still... Kinda cool to meet someone who shares my love of plants. Beatrix: Same, new People - friend!

Only two acceptable responses to strange people in the house.1. Hide. (Puck’s way)2. Attack (Elvis’s way)
But Beatrix does neither. Looks like she might have the right temperament to be a bookshop cat.

She would love to be a bookshop cat! She loves to tidy up, loves getting coffee and loves people. Plus she loves being read to! Perfect!

Mippy, my music studio assistant, greets visitors the same way Beatrix does!

Trevor might be a surprise! Bea is ideal to be a bookstore cat, she is first rate at meeting and greeting, and always the busy little body.

Well, she’s still a cat, and she will mess things up. I’m not saying this to be mean, but how many of you have a CAT that maybe peed on a sofa, shed all over your cloths, or got in fights with itself that cause harm to that cat, another cat, or one of us? Hands up in the air.

Never had a cat that peed on my furniture unless it was sick or the litter box needed cleaning.

Bea is quite the social butterfly and exactly what a bookstore needs!! Just think, she could be another roving reporter for the BCN team. :)

My favorite bookstore closed last year. It always had at least one black cat and others if they had the temperament. We’ve still got an art supply store which is run by cats. I approve of cats in shops. Come to think of it, the bookstore also had a rather cute little dog as well. I think it was closed because the owner really couldn’t see bringing her horses to work.

I agree – they should at try her at the shop.
Cats that pee outside of the box do it for several reasons:full cat box ( what is so hard about cleaning it? Would you NOT flush your toilet for 3 days?), it’s sick, something has upset the cat or it’s threatened by something)

I love her passing mentions of the ancient cat from Quinn farms and the winter greenhouse sleeper. : D

If your cat does that you should treat it better. Cats only pee on furniture if something is wrong. I don’t have a cat, but I know a lot about them.

I see a bright future for little Bea!

I have a cat that hides under the bed at the sound of someone at the door. I have another who does not see “strangers”. They all are just another lap to try out.

Generally speaking, if a shop has a cat in it, I consider it to be a superior shop, and one that is well worth returning to for more shopping.

I hope Beatrix stays and not move to the bookstore but as someone mentioned, she’d be a good ‘roving’ reporter.

So much good stuff in this early BCN strip. “Someone at the door, drop to the floor” is brilliant! Elvis’ sternly worded letter to The Woman. Beatrix going off to the bookstore.
