Truly appreciate the detail and the explanation. Occasionally, comic artists give an example like this one that shows the depth of talent behind the daily panels. Lets readers know there is more to him/her than meets the eye.Been reading comics for over 70 years and always thankful that they are there. Makes every day a bit sunnier.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
This was not the Outland strip but instead the Opus strip that ran about a decade ago. The art was definitely better in Opus than it was in Outland (thanks to computer aided drawing, of course). This strip was definitely one of the finest artistic pieces by Berkeley Breathed other than his illustrations for Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big and also Oliver’s only appearance in the Opus strip.
Every child know that (s)he is the center of the universe, the reason for existence, & the culmination of humanity. Most, but not all of us (see; Donald J. Trump), grow out of that delusion.
Beautiful drawings of the stars, especially the ones at the bottom left strip. Anyway, stop trying to find an answer to that question. It will always be different to everybody. And if you try to find the truth to a question that big, you’ll simply end up crazy.

“All in the space of a single grain of sand in the vast beach of the cosmos.” I wonder if Oliver’s voice sounds like that of Carl Sagan?
