Jeez Oliver. Galileo was launched in 1989 and it bopped around Jupiter for 14 years. So was Magellan, which mapped Venus through the clouds. And, spoiler alert, the USSR will be gone in two years

Gods help us if it was true. “Ishtar” was beyond a bad movie. It ranks in my book as the most colossal waste of time in my life. Even beyond some terrible classes I had to take.

The strip is dated 23 Jan ’88. The Challenger had gone down 28 Jan ’86 – two years minus five days before this strip – and another shuttle would not launch for eight months. (The Soviets were not, of course, really planning on sending people to Mars in 1990)

“Ishtar” is the punchline to so many jokes. Is it really that bad?
