After nearly 60 years of life, I’m finally reading “A Tale of Two Two Cities.” I’ve yet to make up my mind how much sympathy I have for the Defarges et al. (I’m about 3/4 of the way through). Yeah, they could be utterly ruthless, but man, those French aristos had it coming. (Earlier, Dickens explicitly stated that, while some of them were fine people taken as individuals, as a class they were an abomination.)
