peace and prosperity… let’s see, there was the decade of the 1920’s, and then 2 or 3 years between WW2 and Korea. If you ignore Korea and the McCarthy period, Eisenhower’s time was okay, although it pretty much set the stage for our current fuel problems and urban sprawl. Otherwise, paradise. After 8 years of Reaganomics followed by 4 years of Bush and Quayle, Clinton’s terms were sheer comic relief.
Roger, etc…
Don’t blame Korea on Ike. He was inaugurated in March 53, the Korean Armistace was signed in July the same year. So lets give him credit for getting the job done. Joe McCarthy wasnt his fault either. While never actively confronting McCarthy or calling him by name, both were Republicans, Ike did everything he could to reduce McCarthy’s influence and power. And while Eisenhowers Interstate program did ultimately contribute to the things you mentioned they also resulted in an unprecedented era of mobility and, lets admit it, wealth. Eisenhower is probably one of our most underrated (two R’s?) presidents.

“Or the eight years before that.”
Yep, it would be great to get back to a time of peace and prosperity like those years.

I wasn’t sure whether this one was dragon, or just another big lizard. Guess I’ll just have to pretend.
