Poor Ruthie. I sometimes wonder how my little trees survived the hurricane.

You’ll think I’m fibbing maybe, but I did this with a rose bush and it survived it–it had been a bad break, too!

I give credit to Ruthie for thinking determine to save her tree.

I hope her parents replace the tree in the middle of the night, complete with the duct tape bandage. Any difference in the look of the tree can be explained as wind damage. That’s no more a lie than letting her think Santa put gifts under the tree or the tooth fairy bought her tooth.

We had a tree that broke like that. We cut it and branchs grew under the break. It was a great shade tree.

I just saw this morning a news story about Anne Frank’s chestnut tree, the one she saw from her window. A storm snapped it off, but it seems a new shoot is growing from the base. It will probably be weaker than the original–but it may last a good many years yet.

    The cartooning is superb.

Just ink blots and scribbles, but it does make it look exactly like a storm-windswept scene under a dark sky.

Just as much of a miracle as conveying the subtleties of hundreds of different emotions/expressions with slight changes in the way facial features are drawn.
