Heck, it is getting hard to find a something besides a chain restaurant.(fast food or pub/restaurant). I like watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and remember the days.
There was a seafood store nearby (now closed) that had a few tables & was set up as a New England picnic with plastic table cloths & the food came out in baskets, but it did have menus- not a big plastic board. Once when my parents were visiting, the discussion was buffet or sit down. My Mom wanted to sit down & the place had to have a tablecloth. We took them there. She was amused-but it was sit down & a table cloth & the food was wonderful. We were really sorry when it closed.

And if the menu has tassels on it, we’re doomed.

The tablecloth probably should have given him pause as well.

One of the best BBQ restaurants in our area serves on a tray with butcher paper. Great food, and they have tablecloths, but plastic.

Used to be a time when pluggers WERE the only ones at a sitdown restaurant being served food by a waitstaff.

The only reason pluggers are “out of their comfort zone” in a sit-down restaurant is because they forgot their bifocals so they could read the menu.

No big screen TVs with news, sports, and menu.

A plugger really gets out of his comfort zone when the menu does not list the prices ! I know I do .

Not if you never venture into a place with a “plastic sign over your head” as we do!
If fast-food joints relied on folks like my wife and I, they would be out of business in a few days…
