Happened to be in a party-supply store once and noticed the selection of piñatas available. Along with the generic donkeys and stars, there were a bunch of what are called “licensed characters” (although I didn’t ask to see anyone’s license) like ninja turtles, Spongebob, Spider-Man, etc..What caught my eye was the Barbie piñata. Pretty blonde princess dressed in pink, all ready and waiting to be taken to a party where she could get smacked to bits with a stick by some little blonde princess also dressed in pink.
I remember the only pinata at a party I saw growing up was made of some REALLY sturdy cardboard, and it just swung away on the string it was hanging on whenever someone clobbered it. They eventually had to grab it and tear it open by hand, with the help of a knife… Hoping Satchel doesn’t get ideas!
well, I had to look it up…https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4f/Phra_Kiao_at_CU_Memorial_Hall_20081106.jpg/255px-Phra_Kiao_at_CU_Memorial_Hall_20081106.jpg

My experience as a child was that the whacking of the piñata was followed by the whacking of each other as we fought over the candy.

Kids in England cut out the middle man, they demand sweets and then fight over them, no piñata in sight.

I think it is a disguise to fool the dog from the previous strip.

This is from after the pinata incident. I was reading this strip last week. A rare Sunday repeat. Is Darby having trouble with deadlines again?

@Isle of Blue DolphinsI’ll bet you tried to spell it phonetically; that’s how I got only “Wat Phra Kaew” on my first try.
