Sophie: (!) Sophie: Why do you work with toilet paper and garbage? REAL artists work with paint and clay. Sophie: I don't get it. Trash is trash. Sophie: You're just not any good. Sophie: Sigh. Sophie: I just wanted to thank you for your recent piece on "Change." I lost a hind foot a few years ago, and seeing your art made me feel beautiful because of my change, not despite it. Anyway, I'm sure you hear it all the time, but keep up the good work!

It’s nice to be understood, especially in one’s creative endeavors, and most especially when one employs unconventional methods.

I too work with unconventional materials. Antique fabric, lace and crocheted items (like doilies).I think my stuff is beautiful, but it is nice to hear it from other people. (especially those who are buying!)

A true story. When John Lennon died, I sent a sympathy card to Yoko Ono (speaking of unconventional artists). The image was of horses looking upward at a rainbow. On the blank space inside the fold I punched a hole and wrote, “This is a hole to see rainbows through. I hope you can see them again soon.” This was a reference to a work of hers called “A Hole to See the Sky Through.” Months later, her first solo album after losing John appeared. It was titled “It’s All Right, I See Rainbows.” and included a song with that title as a refrain. I always nurtured a little fantasy that she might have had my card propped in a window or on her piano as she wrote those songs. Seeing Puck’s card in our little artist’s window brought those memories to mind.

Cheers for a great last panel where Sophie has propped Pucks card on the windowsill with the origami envelope made into a crane. And there is Tommy with steaming cups and a big smile. Sophie must feel appreciated and loved!

And the critics are in the trash. An excellent story told so briefly

These drawings of Sophie are so expressive. Her ears and body and facial expressions. And Tommy being extra happy, perhaps he is making progress with her as well.

I have wondered as I watched this strip (my favorite) from its drawings, if Puck had lost a hind foot. I guessed I’d never know the answer as it was never mentioned. I’m hoping this strip was confirmation and can only add that cats are very good at making the best of awful circumstances. Can I give Puck a virtual hug? (I have the new book, BTW, and have acquired more for Christmas gifts!)

Sounds like that note was from Puck.

Also, those discouraging notes ARE trash and not even considered to be part of her art.

Love Sophie, her wit, and and her style. I love how her tail is up, down, then wrapped around just like my Angel . . . .

I think everyone can create, but sometimes it’s not in ways that can be shown on a stage or displayed in a gallery. Some people can inspire hope in others by simply saying “I understand.” There are engineers and homemakers, musicians and employees. I know a worker at a local store who helps make people’s days a little better by sincerely complimenting them as she greets them. She is helping create more happiness in the world by her simple acts of kindness. Sometimes people feel like “I’m not an artist; I don’t create.” But really, I think we’re all created for the very purpose of us creating in our own ways :)

this just warms my heart.

Georgia, I just want to say that this strip defines every single day of my life, but all the critics are much closer, and I have only found my “Puck” in myself. This strip made me feel like there were people that knew what I was going through, understood it even. I just wanna say, thank you.

Beautiful. (Notice I did not use autocorrect, I’ve written “beautiful” enough times that I know how to spell it.)
