Go back before 1900, and doctors were prescribing cigarettes for lung problems.

A doctor told me to stop smoking once but I saw a pack of cigars on his desk. He was a good GP as is my present one.

The old Chesterfield ads (40s and 50s) hawked “doctors’ recommendations” to smoke that brand to avoid throat irritation. Them were the days.

Yeah, and make sure it has those Kent micronite filters on them – surely a filter made from asbestos could cause no harm?

Doctors, phssh. I’ve seen the 50’s ads in my gramps Popular Mechanics, the ‘T-Zone’ ads. John Wayne was a prominent pitchman but if I could be affected by celebrities, I’m thinking Rod Serling.
