I had tonsillitis several times in the 1950s. Our family doctor would not remove them, because tonsils were thought to reduce chances of getting bolvar polio.
The tonsils are a type of lymph node and work as part of your body’s immune system. They act as filters for bacteria and viruses. They also make disease-fighting white blood cells and antibodies.
I still have my tonsils. My brother had his out first and I decided that was not for me. Thank goodness my parents did not force me to have them removed. It seemed all the kids in that era had them removed. My grandfather was in his 80s when he died with his tonsils intact.

Yup. Been there in the early 60’s. I remember the mask and them telling me to count backwards. And I remember the ice cream.

Compare with supposed prostate cancer, its surgical ‘remedy’ and its consequences.

I missed so much school with tonsillitis that they threatened to hold me back a year. Tonsillectomy and voila no more absences.
