I know Americans who have. One guy moved to a remote fishing village in the Yucatan. The town had one blinking caution light at the crossroads store. Now there is a Walmart Super Center across the street.
What’s really funny about this is that Mexico has rather stiff penalties for illegal entry into that country, and they do not hesitate to impose them. And Mexico also has a very impressive fence along its southern border that is manned and patrolled 24/7 by armed soldiers.
Judging by the recent, rather large influx of expats to my little patch of paradise, Ecuador, and to places like Panama and Nicaragua and Costa Rica, I’d say today’s strip is pretty darn close to the mark !
Exactly what my wife and I have been thinking, Senator: The cost of living is lower, the weather’s better and the people are nicer. Now if only either one of us spoke Spanish…

The sad thing is, a lot of those immigrants are moving BACK to Mexico because the American economy’s so bad…
