not a creature was stirring . . . not even a (robber) mouse . . .
methinks Elvis and Puck need to find a good book to nap on!

Pucky might swipe one of the books from under Lupin.
Hm. Wonder if they could nap on a copy of the BCN book…

Love Elvis in panel 2 with his huge smile and “Hi Beatrix”!! Such a proud parent!!! & Agnes visiting Beatrix, didn’t notice her ’til the second read through. Georgia is that the spider that Beatrix reported on in an earlier broadcast in panel 9 under the desk????

I love how Puck reacts to Elvis’ leaning in. So sweet!

I wouldn’t say Elvis is that cute. Mildly creepy is more like it. I do love Elvis being oh so proud and happy to see Beatrice.

Guys, look for just about any school textbook. I promise you’ll be asleep in seconds.

LOL, love it all as usual, all those sweet sleepy faces made me want to take a nap and then i reached the boys at the end… Lupin face planted on books of adventure and Elvis sleeping with his eyes open o.OAnd the little details make it extra special <3 didn’t even spot the spider until the comments, lol

Love love love! And the spider!! brilliant back reference. Especially after following Bea’s tweets. Cheeky little fellow.

Ha! There goes Elvis, sleeping with his eyes open again!

Love how all the cats have been included in this story, and I’ve learned so much about books.

Elvis creepy ? Nahhhh, just enthusiastic about seeing Bea. Tabitha would be the least likely to nap at all, I assume, given her at church the red dot drive. Baba mouse is keeping after the local rodent population and may nit travel far from home any more. Tommy is standing by at home, likely napping on a copy of Micheners Hawaii…or a DVD of South Pacific. Delightful as ever-
Brein43 over 8 years ago
Darn auto correct-make that caught the red dot…and baba may not travel…

I laughed out loud at Lupin asleep on top of the books in the last panel. Adorable.

love it! Beatrix sleeping on the books really needs to be on a bookmark, or a mug!

I laughed out loud at Lupin, too. Georgia, I don’t know how there can be comic timing in a “printed” strip, but you have it! Sir Figaro’s “kick kick” and Bea curled up on her books — perfection!

And btw…Georgia is one of those rare people who appreciate the special magic of a cloudy / rainy day. I hope you have ‘em, Georgia, wherever you’ve moved to! You must have Celt or Gael in you somewhere, loving the “soft days.”

Loved reading, & book illustrations since I was 4 in 1940.Years later a sponge for Historical Novels, SF, & later just about everything.

P.S. Our cat likes to “edit” everything we read, especially flumping down on magazines & news papers.

I give up. What network is “BN”? (Bert News?)
roberta.forbes.pyle over 8 years ago
It is Barn News. I agree with Beatrix that a nice paperback “cozy” mystery is nice to curl up with (or curl up on).

Yawn…I think I’ll go take a nice nap now.

I like the Gato’s choice of napping material best, being a sci-fi fan myself.

Beautiful strip. I love the way Elvis’ eyes have an unfocused look, as if he were dead—or sleeping. That was most likely an extremely difficult set of eyes to draw and color, but it is worth it. Made me sleepy, though.,,,,,,,zzzzzzzz

I must be part cat.

Beatrix, the term “dime novel romance” refers to novels published almost a hundred years ago which would cost considerably more these days as rare books. They were staid and prissy so there’s absolutely no heat involved in any sense.
Today’s term is simply “romance.”
pekenpug over 8 years ago
I like Lupin’s mode of napping….thunk!
RH3 over 8 years ago
Isn’t it Beatrix’s job to keep mice out of the books?

I notice Lupin is sleeping on travel and adventure books.
prrdh over 8 years ago
It should be noted that cozies are the best kind of mystery for this purpose. The hard-boiled ones are too lumpy.
SunflowerGirl100 over 8 years ago
I think we shouldn’t take the term “dime novel romances” too literally and just think of it as the generic cheap romances or beach reads.
