Phil must be a nervous wreck; he’s probably outside the church having a smoke (the habit which he promised to break).

A good Best Man and Maid of Honor would have all of this covered so that the bride and groom could be spared this stress.

I relate! My husband & I threw our wedding together in 3 days. My job was setting up the music and calling people to invite them (mailed invitations would come too late, and we didn’t have e-mail in 1985). My husband arranged the JP, and handled video. My FIL let us use his apartment, my MIL (the reason we only had 3 days) got the flowers. 2 of my brothers did photography. My mother arranged the cake, and the woman I was living with (long story) let us have the reception at her house. Oh, we both also had, you know, JOBS to do. We were so exhausted that, when we got to our hotel room for the wedding night, we fell right to sleep…only to be awakened at 3 in the morning by a fire alarm!

There is no guarantee that he is in the church……for within five miles of it ! ! ! !

Evidently the aroma from the car didn’t stick to Elle or Elizabeth as we see no reaction from the bride or other attendees ! ! !

The Maid of Honor is there to help the bride with all these many details. The Best Man has one job: make sure the groom shows up.

My late grandparents were actually married in the church rectory on a Wednesday night. My GGM sent out invitations; but nobody came. Grandparents were married for 42 years, until his death at age 71.

Spoiler alert….Phil did get married and stayed married throughout Mike and Liz…and April’s childhoods. Aunt Georgia became Great Aunt right along with Uncle Phil. Lots of men think they don’t want to get married and lose their freedom which is just an illusion. Imagined. There is another kind of freedom in being married called companion.

OK, but Uncle Creepy may have caved and got married, but did he say absolutely no kids?

The best man also has to marry the bride if the groom chickens out (old school rules.)
