It wasn’t strong enough to protect the Cherokee. Andy Jackson just thumbed his nose at the Supreme Court when they ruled against their forced removal. Or when George W. Jr. suspended habeas corpus and then proceeded to openly violate many other federal laws in the name of national security. Doesn’t seem to make our people feel any safer. In fact it seems to have increased the paranoia levels both foreign and domestic.
Let’s hope that the first layer of the Constitution’s anti-demagogue firewall works: the Electoral College. I’d hate to put the second layer — Separation of Powers — to its ultimate test: withstanding a demagogue in the White House.

His father was a much more prudent man. The media even mocked him for prudence. I guess they preferred more action, less caution..Anyhoo, Father: George Herbert Walker Bush.Son: George Walker Bushnot George Herbert Walker Bush Junior. In like manner, but less publicized, my grandfather was named Martin Van Buren Green and called Van GreenOne of his sons was named Van Green Junior, so in his case the Junior was right because it was his name, otherwise it would’ve been wrong because he wasn’t Martin Van Buren Green Junior..I wasn’t aware of this until I referred to my cousin, Martie, as Martin Van Buren Green The Third..Uncle Junior told me his name is Martin Van Green..So what it comes down to is that anybody can name their children anything (free speech and all that)..As to the habeas corpus thing, he thought the Constitution didn’t apply on military bases outside the USA until the Supreme Court explained it to him otherwise. I think he continued to bypass by leaving them in the custody of other nations where they are more experienced with torture and indefinite detentions..(Methinks Trump would be more like Jackson in ignoring any law he didn’t like, Clinton more likely to hide the fact and pretend it didn’t happen.)

Won’t help as it seems most elected and reps on both sides don’t care and the political appointees are the scum of the earth for the most part.

I’m not too worried about this election. I have a preference, of course, but this country is great enough to survive either candidate.
