Ah Mom, other mothers let their children play in the rain.I lived on a farm growing up and in the summer at dusk when it was cooling down and raining, playing in the rain was the greatest.
Pneumonia is usually caused by infection with viruses or bacteria and less commonly by other microorganisms, certain medications and conditions such as autoimmune diseases.25 Risk factors include other lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis, COPD, and asthma, diabetes, heart failure, a history of smoking, a poor ability to cough such as following a stroke, or a weak immune system.
It’s not caused by water. The above is from Wikipedia.
Whenever we asked to play in the rain my mother would say, “You can do that when it’s a warm rain.” Only a few years ago I realised she would never have said rain was warm enough to play in.
Calvin’s mom doesn’t seem worried about the possiblity of pneumonia, but about the possibility of “terrible bills.”
Just let the kid play in the rain, sheesh. You can’t get sick from being wet. This is an example of how parents fail; there’s no rational reason he shouldn’t play in the rain, but she doesn’t want to deal with wet clothes so she says no. Then he will be stir crazy and create mayhem inside and she will end up screaming at him, angry with him for a problem she created. It’s unfair.
In parenting, the right answer is almost always yes; as long as the child won’t harm himself or others, there’s no reason for him not to do what he wants to do.
Our wise leaders in the Swiss Army constantly had us play in the rain.Unfortunately, we never caught pneumonia, and thus had to soldier on.The one thing you learn from this:With the right equipment, even hiking in the rain can be pleasant and satisfying.

Pneumonia is more controlled now, though it’s still not wise to play in the rain… unless is May 1.

The most likely problem, the very worst problem, is Hobbs will catch mildew.
