I’ve experienced this way too many times in my life, especially since it’s the frogs that come to me and not the other way around. I think the’re conspiring.
No, moderns don’t read Twain and they don’t read Dickens’ detailed descriptions of the lives of the poor and average in his time. Most of their information comes from one hour mini-series and occasional costume films. Only we who were schooled before the 1970’s had the good fortune to experience them and their wonderfully evocative styles of writing – another skill that has atrophied from lack of application. And, no, I am neither docile nor a ranter. Just a former teacher who regrets what has been done to the quality of education. The term ‘dumbing down’ just doesn’t cover it.But, that’s just me, and I am good with it.
@LeadingEdgeAre the differences between you and us? You were an architect, correct? Don’t architects need to understand grace and beauty as well as technology? In my opinion, students should study the arts as well as STEM. I’m not sure what you mean by “real world.” If you would explain that perhaps I can further address your first paragraph. What you describe in your second paragraph is primarily, but not exclusively, a result of parenting.
Speaking of Twain, never let your schooling interfere with your education! (And Hobbes should know that some frogs swallow lead shot instead of water……..)
My brothers and I grew up playing with frogs and toads our whole childhood and NEVER had ANY WARTS ! Also the classics and such should still be read, exrerienced and enjoyed in Schools !!!

I see I am ranting again. My meds will take hold any minute now and I will again be a nice, docile old man.

This reminds me of a bad joke.
Why can’t you hear pterodactyls use the bathroom?
Wait for it …
Because the P is silent.
(Ducking now, but I warned you!)
