It ain’t easy to learn foreign foods’ names until you know their ingredients (sausage in pudding/custard, pan-fired mashed potatoes mixed with leafy vegetables, steamed fruitcake).
Good one! And true to life! I remember when I visited England and my very first meal there was in a pub. My companion ordered “faggots and mushy peas.” She got a plate with four largish greyish mystery meatball things (the faggots) arranged in a square and sitting in a pool of pureed bright green peas. I played it safe and had absolutely delicious fish and chips. I saw spotted dick on the menu, but was embarrassed to order it. Now I know it’s some kind of dessert and would have been happy to try it. The beer came in a large glass, filled right to the top—no head. And was it GOOD! Best beer I ever had. ;-9
World Market has Spotted Dick in a can. And Heinz tomato soup which is a million times better than Campbell’s.I subscribe to the BBC Good Food Magazine and the English have way better food than we do. Many kinds of potatoes, custard in a cup at the grocers, ready meals that are delicious looking, and mince pie at Christmas in every form imaginable. Yum!
Pretty good one from the boys today, but I’ve always seen it as Mabel, not Mable, and wearing an American flag on yourself or your luggage these days is a good way to become a statistic.
There’s a Monty Python joke about American beer, and a canoe, but I can’t tell it in here without being banned (or at least being embarrassed!)@Number ThreeI always like the way you post song requests from the Cappers. Sometimes I’ll find a song I didn’t know before but end up liking. Could I please request Cole Porter’s “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” ?

The wife’s design in particular, gives a somewhat “Lockhorns” vibe.
