    Best of all, you only need a cup of coffee and a piece of pie to settle Sam’s Hash.The whipped cream to top the pie is an extra five cents.

    Although it should be noted that a sharpening steel is not actually used for whetting. It is only used to align the edge and maintain its angle. A more aggressive abrasive is required for whetting.Whetting should be done sparingly, while steeling should be done regularly to maintain the edge applied in whetting.Glad we got that hashed out.

    5:00? Is that A.M. or P.M.? Five in the morning would be a sensible time to whet one’s blade, while five in the late afternoon might be too close to the dinner rush for everyone’s favorite hash….

    I remember seeing my grandfather’s big round whetstone. I forgot how we made the wheel turn. Did we pump something with our feet or did we turn something with our spare hand?
