Farley’s lapping it up!

The difference that matters is the difference between being properly educated, having the ability to use proper grammar, and being offended when non-standard language is used to convey meta-information aside from it’s strict context. For instance, representing the speech of 999 out of 1,000 tweenage boys who would certainly say “was.” Or do you also object to Popeye and make fun of Tweety. Of Mice and Men must make some folks go hide behind the couch.

At his age, he probably doesn’t have a good mastery of the subjunctive.

It was evident from what he is saying that Michael knows nothing about farming, shepherding, sledging or police work. Dogs are used in those careers and have hard, dangerous jobs. Not to mention he is probably ignorant of the 1925 Serum Run to Nome.

That reminds me of an old Far Side cartoon, where the dog is thinking happily “Oh, Goody! Dog food again!”

Michael, dogs don’t live as long as humans, as a rule. Farley will die long before you do.

A little perspective is always helpful.

You have to be able to communicate with your peers. If I spoke like my overeducated grammer nazis(my parents) wanted, I would have beat up everyday, since we lived on the cheap side of town with the thugs.
