One year we all had chicken pox (for any young ones, yes we used to get the chicken pox) the week of Easter break. My parents still packed us up and drove to Myrtle Beach for a week of camping.
Used to get the flu just when school let out for Christmas vacation. New Years Day I’d be up and dressed for the first time. Happened more than once. Think I was jinxed.
My wife and I got into the habit of having spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment, jump-in-the-car-and-go-somewhere, RIGHT NOW kinds of vacations.“COME ON kids, we’re all going to Disneyland (or Las Vegas or the Beach or whatever) RIGHT NOW!”Any time we planned any sort of travel more than a week out, inevitably somebody would get sick the day before and we’d have to cancel everything, sometimes paying penalties for broken reservations.

I know Murphy well. At the age of 8 I broke my left elbow on the first day of Easter vacation week, and spent said entire week in the hospital.
