Life time health care costs for brain damaged kids is going to be far more than the upfront cost of mosquito control and research on a Zika vaccine but somehow Republicans in Congress can’t think past the next election cycle.
It was the dems who voted down the funding measure that was brought to a vote. They are the ones who are acting like little kids who throw a tantrum because they don’t like something. Better nothing than not getting their way.
Nobody ever explained why the Republicans (or who actually did it) put in a provision about the Confederate flag in the zika bill. We need a line-item veto amendment to the Constitution.

Very few members of Congress can find housing that close (or even in the District – 10 miles square until they gave a third back to Virginia). The Speaker automatically gets an apartment in the Capital itself. Ralph Yarborough (D-TX over a half century ago) managed to rent one in the Methodist Building next door to the Supreme Court and across the street from the capital (strange, he was Southern Baptist), but those are the only ones I ever heard of.
The GOP looks at this and sees only that abortion is going to be even more necessary in the future and sticks their fingers in their ears and screams loudly, hoping that they will somehow go back to that fairy tale world they lived in while young and ignorant of grown up responsibilities.
