So when and why did the venerable “Personnel Dept.” turn into “H.R.” (which I always thought, paradoxically, was dehumanizing)? I’ve tried researching but haven’t found an answer, though I suspect it has something to do with international standards controlled by Europe. Anyone?

I would argue that an undead human is still human. Where I work, HR is full of trolls; they ARE inhuman.
