Busted!

Ambrose Bierce used to have a standard response whenever someone wrote in with some impenetrable crackpot theory to the newspaper he was writing for..He’d write them back saying simply “Dear Sir, You may be right.”

Earl you did not hide that very well.

daDoctah, thanks for the memories. My father said his boss at university use to say the same thing when someone would call him with a complaint. If he couldn’t settle it; he would say “you just may be right” which would take the steam out of them and they would hang up. I’ve used it many times in my life and it always worked.

She set him up perfectly for that one.
