All he has to do is start out at a fast, but very steady pace, and they’ll all be intimidated. But they may expect his spring to wind down a bit early.

Many years ago, I saw a Volkswagon ‘bug’ with a key like that welded on the trunk (actually if I remember correctly, that was the engine compartment)

Works great for sprint, not so much for marathons (unless the coach can come on the track to rewind the spring) :P
