“If you think I was put on this earth to be you r slave, you’ve got another think coming.” Bill Cosby’s mom didn’t have a patent on that exclaimation, you know?
It was great fun watching our kids learn what emancipated really meant. In a couple of years, it will be our grandchildren. “There’s the door, and you’re welcome to visit.” “Now, wife, where were we?”
While Lincoln freed the slaves, he also wanted to send them to Africa or set up a country in the jungles of South America. No one was “free” then. Most people owed their soul to the company store, couldn’t leave thefactory/mining/farming town until they were paid up and since the company controlled the trains or roads in and out, they were slaves in all but name. Women sewed all of the time they weren’t hauling water, cooking, having babies. That was the time and people thought differently. You have to see history the way they saw it, with 17th and 18th century values, not 21st century values.

The original emancipation proclamation written by General John C. Fremont, or the one issued by Lincoln a year or so after he voided Fremont’s?
