was wondering if a baby is born over an ocean(int’l waters), what is its nationality? can it be american, if the mother is american? or, does it need a UN passport, and has its papers checked by every law enforcement personnel, especially in AZ?
I was in that situation! I was driving like a maniac yelling, “My wife is in labor!” driving on the opposite side of the street, on the shoulder, running red lights. Thankfully, we made it. By the time I parked the car, the kid was born!
Interesting discussion- but, unless Roy REALLY loses control of the steering and overshoots the hospital, the chances are the baby will not be born at sea.

In U.S., a child whose mom is an American citizen is also a citizen, regardless of place of birth.
