Transcript:
Cathy: What do you mean, you're going to be a Grandma, Andrea?! Andrea: I had my children sort of early, remember, Cathy? Cathy: Your daughter was just a flower girl at my wedding! Andrea: She was a "flower teen" and that was five years ago. Since then she finished college, got married and is starting a family! Cathy: But if you're old enough to be a Grandma, then I'm... I'm... Forget the kids! The grown-ups are growing up too fast!

So is this going to be the final story arc? How predictable…
legaleagle48 about 14 years ago
Well, you had your chance, Cathy, and you blew it by spending too much time at the mall when you and Irving could have been starting your own family. Mother Nature isn’t going to wait forever, you know!

How are we going to notice Cathy’s upcoming baby bump?

sueb1863–perhaps zenith eloped?

Why should Zenith have invited her mother’s friend? Weddings are for relatives and the bride and groom’s friends, not all and sundry. You’re overanalysing that one!

By the way, Cathy, the correct response when someone tells you their good news is ‘Congratulations!’, not a self-centred, self-pitying complaint.

Cathy didn’t finish her sentence in the third panel.
It should read—-
choice #1: “I’m old enough to be a grandmother!” choice #2: “I’m too old to have a baby!”
(but not to adopt, Cathy)

What adoption agency would consign a baby to Cathy and Irving? Its not an accessory or a gadget. You can’t ignore it like they do their poor dogs pleading for walkies so often.

My grandmother’s mother had her first child at 18 and her twelfth at 46, so I guess it’s possible. Guisewhite has always been vague as to how old Cathy actually is.

I’ve got one ‘cathy’ book (Sorry I’m Late, My hair won’t start) which dates from 1983. At this point Cathy was working for Mr Pinkley, and she gets a ‘big promotion’ - so not fresh out of school. If she ages in real time, she’s pushing 50.
One of the first strips is Andrea quizzing her about her career progression plans, where she sees herself in 10 years, what she thinks about children, real estate, retirement planning. Cathy’s response: ‘I haven’t even figured out if my hair is dry, normal or oily yet’.

Grimma, if you had followed Cathy over the years, you would know that Zenith pretty much thought of Cathy as an aunt. She wasn’t just “one of her mother’s friends”. My mom had friends that I was very close to, and they were certainly invited to my wedding because I wanted them there - and the same would have been true of Zenith. If nothing else, you would think Andrea or Zenith would have told Cathy after the fact.

I had a very close friend, and due to our schedules, drifted apart. I received an invitation to her daughter’s wedding, but it was sent to an old address. If I didn’t live in a town that’s so small they sort by name, instead of address, I wouldn’t have received it. Found out shortly before the daughter’s wedding, that my friend’s son was already married. Neither parent seemed thrilled about their son’s choices as an adult, so it could explain about Zenith’s marriage. Some in-laws think their son/daughter-in-law is horrible, but produces the greatest grandchild.

So it all comes out now. Cathy isn’t merely neurotic. She’s SENILE! LOL

Ok, then there was a wedding (thanks God) and Cathy wasn´t invited (Oh my God).

I think Cathy is supposed to represent all the foolish things we do – kinda like spending too much time looking for the “perfect” bathing suit, obsessing over our weight, worrying about boyfriends/husbands, eating unhealthy foods AND not keeping in touch with friends. If Cathy were “normal,” she wouldn’t be very funny at all.
