    Wait! That’s a keystone arch bridge. It should have held up anyway. The only weak spot would have been if the end foundations weren’t solidly mounted. Is that where the cement was drying?

    “Yoo hoo! I have a new innovation to show you.” Uh, no, Mr. Hart. The quoted statement is redundant, because every “innovation,” by definition, is “new.” The word is derived from the Latin, “novus,” which means “new.”

    You don’t want cement to dry, you want it to set, which requires that it stay wet. Besides, they are talking about either concrete (for the footings) or mortar between the stones. In both cases, portland cement is only one component. The other ingredients are necessary to making a strong, durable end product. A pure cement sidewalk would last about a year.
