Count yourself lucky, Rose. I had a bunch of starlings that set up nestkeeping in the crawlspace above my (2nd story) bedroom. Because the baby birds hadn’t yet learned that they’re supposed to sleep away the hours of darkness, one would wake up at any random time of the day or night and start hollering, which would wake up all the rest and then they’d start hollering.

Although the cries of all hungry baby birds sound like noise to the human ear, the calls of a starling are far from melodic, especially when compared to those of a cardinal. But then I’d take the most raucous bird call to the sound of a leaf-blower, or other loud mechanical equipment anytime!

@retiredgezzer: Respectfully, I think daDoctah meant crawlspace. It depends on where you live. I’ve lived in both California and Florida, and in these places, the space daDoctah is talking about is, indeed, called the crawlspace. Crawlspace is usually anyplace open enough at the top or bottom of a house where someone, usually plumbers/builders/electricians can “crawl” to get to the house’s innards.

I wonder where Rose lives because here in NC, we’re going to be in the mid 80’s all week and I won’t be wearing a jacket and hat.

I keep forgetting that the weather changes to reflect the season right on time for them though. Come December 1st, they’ll have snow.
