Those automated car fanatics are nuts! Self driving vehicles won’t stop all traffic deaths. Only about 50% will be saved. 16,000 thousand lives, who cares? Wait a minute…the average US city size is 20,000!
Just the fact self driving cars do not text or mess with their cell phones while driving will make the much safer than a human driver. It is becoming very common to sit stuck behind some jerk long after the light has turned green because they are texting or what ever.
So, 18,000 deaths in 6 months. How many miles traveled in that 6 month period? Driving one mile to work and the number of vehicles on the road make it so that I believe 18,000 is a very low percentage. -And, no, I don’t believe anyone dying in a traffic collision is a good thing.
Driver licensing is not a grown up paradigm. Would you fly in an airplane or allow a surgeon to operate on you with as little and poor training as it takes to get a license? There is a right way to drive. It’s called defensive driving. I once taught it and there should probably be 50-100 hours of intense instruction given by auto insurers who would save billions in claims because theoretically a defensive driver should never be in a crash. I’ve been driving 50 years and not one crash.
….and that’s no accident (pardon the pun). Driving a car is very serious business and thousands end up paralyzed and crippled because it’s not taken seriously enough. Better training and licensing could dramatically reduce the carnage.
Years ago, my friend Paul slowed down as he approached an intersection, even though it was our right-of-way. The guy coming up to the stop sign breezed right through it and roared on. If Paul hadn’t been to a defensive driving class, he might have assumed that his rights were sufficient reason to proceed. I need hardly add that I was in the ‘death seat’ at the time.
To many numb n@#$ with their phone where the sun does not shine.If crashing into someone else while diddling ones phone was a lose your license with jail time offence perhaps at least some of the idiots would pay attention to driving instead of having their head up their phone and the phone out of the sunlight.
