It could be an imaginary gift, Gaylord.

margueritem has it exactly, Gaylord! Surely you are smart enough to have thought of this: you must be intentionally teasing the witch, which is not a safe practice. Always practice safe imagining!

Is all this just a figment of my imagination?

Thank God the kids would be imaginary.

Shiver me timbers, I hear the wench has been saving it for 1500 years. I wouldn’t want to be in that crows nest. Send her a gift, 16 men on a dead man’s chest, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. What lubber is she marrying?

That last frame makes me wonder if we’re supposed to do exactly that. Is Russell Myers about to retire?

Though I don’t think there is any hidden message here (and I’m highly tuned to these things), Russell Myers is 72 this year and has been drawing BroomHilda for forty years, so retirement is a real possibility. But I hope he just keeps going until he drops, because it will be a sadder world without Broomie.

Just look at the joyful exuberance of today’s drawing! The title panel alone is a pleasure, and his borders are … I hate to use the word, but they’re AWESOME!

Here lays the body of good old Broomie. She died at the age of 1,523…. For more than 1,400 years she kept her virginity.

“Not a bad record for this vicinity”.. (to paraphrase Robert Shaw ‘Quint’ in Jaws)

Quite a few people have imaginary love lives. They also have an ample supply of batteries.
