Don’t see failure here…………just a squirrel with winter fur issues and his buddy Frank with washing machine issues,,,,,,keep on trucking as they said in the 70’s……..wish I could put that foot thing picture in here :-)
This is so achingly human Frank! I guess it depends on how we define ’Success".To me, the fact that you have a fan base that could not imagine a day without Bob says volumes.You Frank Page are a success!
It’s odd that you would consider this a failure. From my, admittedly limited, understanding of the world of syndicated comics, Bob has been a success. A 15 year run is a long time. I’ve never had 1 job for more than 10 years, and I didn’t have to output something unique, every. single. day!So, from my, probably slightly biased (I like your work more than most of what I read) opinion, Bob the Squirrel is not, and never has been a failure.
IF, as I suspect, Bob’s tenure is coming to a close, then I won’t say “Oh, no! Please don’t!”, since it’s not my life, and my decision to make. I will say a heart-felt “Thank you!” for the large portion of your life you’ve given us. May the universe bless you with it’s fruits. ….and nuts!
No, Bob has not (yet) become the next Snoopy or Garfield. But he does make many of us very happy. Your art work is the only original art that I have bought from comic strips. You and Bob make many of us so happy! :)
Unfortunately….the days of Garfield and Snoopy are behind us – along with Newspapers in general. So, using that as a bar to measure ‘success’ or ‘failure’ is not realistic. What is true is that you have been around for 15 years & we love you (and if that isn’t success, I don’t know what success is!)
I like Bob and Frank a whole lot, but I sense that he is lonely.
i have had many pet rats for 15+ years, and the ones who don’t have a furry companion are never as happy as the rats who have at the very least 1 companion.Bob doesn’t really know what he is missing, but I’ve seen him with a sad quizzical look in his eyes, or a slumped, bored, body language.Happiness and interaction with your peers IS the measure of success.Maybe if a baby squirrel will be found on your doorstep or a part of his family has found him, maybe a couple of cousins and a screwy auntie or some squirrels he knew when he was a lad.Everyone’s interest will pick up speed, you and Bob will suddenly have a friend who knows exactly where he needs a back scratching .So take some friendly advise and have at go with a little buddy that Bob can get out of his little rut.
