Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for December 04, 2016
Transcript:
Pig: How are your eggs, dad? Dad: Runny. But I guess they're fine. Pig: Sorry. This was the only place I could take you for breakfast that was near your house. Dad: Yeah, well, with the traffic now, it's impossible to go anywhere. Just yesterday, I had to get to my doctor's appointment. Made me ten minutes late. Of course, that stupid doctor is always late, too. He's terrible. The idiot doesn't even know what this pain in my leg is. Hurts. All the time. Pain. Pain. Pain. Pain. It's horrible. Now my @*#@ coffee's cold. And why don't you take me to breakfast more often? Pig: 'Cause...life...not...worth...living.

Now Pig knows why his mother left his Dad.

This is why Iāve always hated talking to old people. This and all the talk about friends and relatives whoāve recently died.
Templo S.U.D. about 8 years ago
maybe Pig should try going over to his parentsā house and fix breakfastā¦ though the parents would complain of their sonās tardiness and complain of starvation
RH3 about 8 years ago
Sherlock, wait till you get old. Youāll find that the best fun you can have is griping about everything. Thatās why I comment on all the websites I can.

Now that Iām past 70, I get to complain as much as I want, and my kids have to listen (I make the rules too).

I thought this one was leading up to a pun.

Poor Pig. Is this the first time they show his dad?
sbischof about 8 years ago
Chronic pain is horrible. If its untreated, of course heās going to be hard to live with. What Pig feels is a fraction of what his dad is putting up with. The doctor should really treat the pain even if they donāt know whatās causing it. Unfortunately, not something thatās done very often in America.

Am I the only one who was trying to figure out what the pun was going to be?

My grandmother listened to her friends kvetch about their aches and pains and decided she didnāt want to be one of those. She became the sweetest little old lady you could ever hope to meet, even with a severe case of osteoporosis, and she lived to be a happy 96.

Wow. Thatās my mom.

YupāI, too, was expecting a pun. Seems like Pastis hasnāt done one for a while. Is he slipping?

December is family time. Perhaps we will meet some of the other charactersā folks ā¦. Pig Pa is recognizable as Pigās opposite, makes me wonder what Goat or Ratās dad would be like.
knight1192a about 8 years ago
And we see the difference between Rat and Pig once again. Rat would have taken a baseball bat to his Dad after he said the eggs were runny and say he should be happy to get runny eggs even though he himself would complain about runny eggs (personally I enjoy sunny side up when itās runny, like to sop up the yolk with my toast; but when the whites are runny the eggs should have stayed in the fryer a little longer). Pig at least tries to be nice.
Sisyphos about 8 years ago
Iād have expected Pig to be used to the complaining by now. I guess this why he doesnāt see his dad very often (as far as we know, ehh, Cartoon-Boy?)ā¦.

The only reason the new pain products got popular was that they were synthetic and the pharma corps had patents on them. Using opiate derivatives is old school and is too easy. Opiate derivatives clear out of you system faster, also.
Chronic pain is a lifetime of suffering. Since Obama Care came in, the govrenment has control over the doctors and now try to make you jump through hoops to get pain relief.
They want you to do to the pain clinic a couple of times a week rather than prescribing a 90 day supply. When you ask them to look at your problem, they just put you off and when you finally get in, they tell you they wonāt do the surgery, just like they did last year.
It is the same old story. If I had the money for a private doctor, he might do the surgery, but it could just make it worse.

Reading the first panel, pig + egg, I thought we were heading into an Angry Bird themed story.

Pig needs a DNA test. Notice how his ears are opposite to his dadās? Pig has right up, left down. The old man has right down, left up. Maybe mama was wallowing in a strange pig sty!
And, btw, Iām 75 and donāt bore my kids with my ailments or whine about things. I have plenty to go on about but I donāt want my kids or grandkids to be bored with me. Iād rather talk about their lives and whatās going on there!
