In these “new-run” strips some of the dialogue and scenes have been changed. Not sure how many times Elizabeth was spanked, considering Michael’s corporal punishments were often retconned into some alternate discipline. It is true that Elly often thought Elizabeth can do no wrong. However, in later strips Elizabeth runs into trouble at school and home. Her parents start laying down the law as Elizabeth becomes less cutesy-pootsy as she ages.

While Michael’s motives might not be all that altruistic, he’s showing some of the positive signs of beginning to grow up.

Remember, we’ve seen some of the pre-teen negative behavior from him recently.

    .

Like all boys his age, he exhibits a wonderful combination of typical good and bad behaviors.

Lynn Johnson’s portraitures of the kids is age appropriate, and pretty darn accurate – also very funny.

You might be confusing with Baby Blues – example visit to doctors office for the girl – given clean bill of health. Hammie shouts, what! No shots? Shouldn’t something in the doctors office hurt?Next frame, stars by his rear and the girl snickering!

    ..

I’m sorry. I know you were trying to express yourself and I should not have commented.

Sometimes, the writer/editor in me, sneaks its snarky way out of my psyche and onto the page.

Please accept my apology and accept the criticism as given, in good spirit

.Words are funny things to play with. Enjoy them, don’t be intimidated by them, use them but, sparingly.

I have to remind myself, constantly, when writing, simplicity and directness are the keys to expression.

    .

.The major problem that most of us face when posting is that we either don’t have the time or don’t take the time to self-edit what we’ve hastily typed.

I’m as guilty as the next, and let my itchy literary trigger finger fire something off, before I give it SERIOUS THOUGHT !

I do not know how to paste pictures, but I did find a few of the original strips where corporal punishment was deployed. Mind you, it was not Elizabeth and Michael being taken out to the woodshed every week, this was seldom. However, when the kids did something extremely bad, the father would resort to that. We can count on one hand how many times that happened.
