Lay Lines by Carol Lay for November 30, 2016

Before she got too bad to go, I used to take my mom for long rides. We’d see sights, eat at quirky little places, and enjoy the scenery and fresh air (depending on what time of year). I brought along my Chinese Shar Pei and she loved the rides as much as did mom. My children were grown and on their own by then. When she was bed and chair-ridden at the nursing home, we’d talk about the rides and look at the pictures I took when we rode around.

Now both mom and my dog are passed on. I still take rides and remember the times we rode together. Now I’m a senior citizen, and my kids and grandkids are scattered across the country. When I get too old to drive, I’ll have no one to take me for rides. Pity.

Better go back via Amtrak then.

They arrest people for that!
