Laura: Hi, mom. Did you see that last "Cathy" comic? I teared up a little too. I can't believe she's having a baby. I know. Nine months of guilt-free ice cream, chocolate, and not fitting in a bikini. Gotta go. There goes my baby.
Remember this adage: All women are correct at all times while those of us cursed with outdoor plumbing are always wrong. Always. Or, read Lew’s comment. He nailed it.
Frank, the way flagging is supposed to work is that if you get flagged enough times, they won’t allow you to post anymore. The problem is that the spammers change their email address so it appears to be a new poster. We must be eternally vigilant!
HEY! For once, the spammer got it right!! His first line nails it!! Fits right in with the other comments!! (Laura’s satisfaction is Adam’s eternal pursuit!!) :—D
As for Adam, he might have walked in on Laura’s conversation when she is describing pregnancy’s ‘freedoms’ and apparently is caught off-guard realizing she’s pregnant and diapers and sleep-less nights are right around the corner again! And with that, he’s out!
lightenup, Cathy was a rather annoying person, true, but Irving wasn’t any better. My point was that a rather large number of comic strips continue to portray men as children incapable of making it on their own. Cathy was portrayed as insecure and petty but never as incompetent.
algurka, my reading was that Adam fainted because he thought Laura was saying she HERSELF was pregnant…
And the prevalence of strips which suggest that men are just overgrown little boys is merely an exaggeration of a truth. We never outgrow our toys. We get sloppy and lazy if we don’t have female oversight. We find fart jokes and sex jokes far funnier than women do. We like mud and fighting. “Men without women are like bears with furniture.” - Rita Rudner
These are generalizations, in the same way that it’s a generalization that women are obsessed with their weight and can never have too many shoes, but there’s truth in them. And HOPEFULLY we (both sexes) have the ability to laugh at ourselves. (And the strips which portay Y-chromosome people in the worst light by and large are produced BY MEN.) If you don’t like that men are perceived and portrayed as big babies, don’t whine like one.
Personally, I don’t mind if the bar is set low for male behavior. When I choose to do so, I know I’m capable of rising far above that standard set by Dagwood, Adam, and Bovee. Haven’t you ever found it useful yourself to have others underestimate your capabilities?
Hear Hear, Fritzoid. Adam is not perfect, but he loves his family – and his coffee– and he tries. That’s the human experience in a nutshell, love your family. Try your best.
No to mention, isn’t it about time we stopped abusing the “eating for two” tradition? 10-15 pounds is healthy, but when women use pregnancy as an excuse to gorge, they’re hurting their baby as well.

Do they have any comics where the wife is the baby and the husband is the adult?

No, truth in stereotyping laws demand that the man is the jerk.

I don’t know. I’m trying to figure out if he’s bowing before her or what his actions imply.

It’s tiring flagging spammers, but it is the only way to get rid of them. I can’t understand how they get into the comics though.

Agreed. I’ve already flagged at least 8 & I’m sure there are dozens more out there

Did Cathy EVER fit in a bikini?
