Natural diamonds don’t actually come from coal, except in that one episode of the Superman show from the fifties. Today you can have diamonds made from your dead relatives.

According to many sources, Coal has no Diamonds in them at all. It’s just a Superman Gag. Even when on Smallville played into the gag when he wanted to marry Lana Lang.
Diamonds are either deep in the earth or from meteorite cuts.
