Where I live the trash truck does all the work. The hydraulic arm grabs the can and empties it into the truck. This is true for regular trash and recycles. Another truck comes by for yard debris that uses and crane type arm to pick up limbs. The only crews that use people power are bagged yard debris. I always know the day after trash day though because by yard is scattered with litter from the trash trucks.

I have actually seen this occur.Though normally it is just blowing out of the back of the truck.

I also was driving behind a garbage truck when one of them threw his lunch bag out the window. I actually wrote to Waste Management and complained.
