It’s a ploy by the tree lighting companies to get you to buy new lights every year. Just like when you can’t find the one bulb that’s burnt out that keep the rest from lighting.
I can remember back in the “olden days” when the Grand folks, aunts ’n uncles had those “bubble lit lights” in the form of a candle that decorated the tree (s) I guess however, those sets too might of gotten tangled after the holidays were over !
